Running SAP applications virtualized using VMware vSphere 4.0 presents many new capabilities and opportunities to enhance your SAP implementation whether installing a new environment or upgrading an existing environment. In this session we will present SAP performance and scalability data for both scale-up scenarios (increasing virtual CPU count) and scale-out scenarios (adding additional virtual machines). Along the way, we will detail tuning and optimization best practices for SAP implementations in a vSphere environment. IBM System x and BladeCenter servers with VMware vSphere 4.0 can tackle the most demanding SAP workloads. Results are gathered on an IBM System x3850 M2 server with VMware vSphere 4.0. We use a modern, production-class 64-bit software stack consisting of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008. SAP software includes SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (ABAP) with a Unicode kernel and Enhancement Package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0.
