Explore the fascinating, complex history of Madrid, the capital of Spain, while experiencing its rich and evolving culture of today. Madrid has plenty of notable places to visit: art galleries, museums, palaces, gardens, cathedrals, parks, and many more. Visit the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk), also known as the "golden triangle." There you will find three of Madrid's most outstanding museums: The Prado, Reina Sofia, and Thyssen-Bornemisza. Also, check out Plaza Mayor, which means "the grandest square" and is located in "old town" Madrid. Other great places to see include Retiro Park, the Royal Palace, Goya's Tomb, and the Royal Botanic Garden.
When you need to "re-fuel," enjoy some of Madrid's various eateries. Food and drink are a very important part of Madrid's culture. Natives are especially fond of tapas, so don't miss out on trying one of the great tapas bars in Madrid. Also, keep in mind that most restaurants do not start serving dinner until 9:00 p.m. For after-dinner festivities, enjoy Madrid's vibrant nightlife which includes fantastic pubs, bars, and nightclubs.
