Formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, by childhood friends John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, the band's first break came in 1991 when its song "I'm Awake Now" was recorded for the sound track of the movie Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.
After achieving the band's first commercial success with the single "Name" in 1991, Rzeznik was approached to pen the title track for the film City of Angels. The song "Iris" spent a record 18 weeks at number one and earned the band its first GRAMMY nomination.
For more than 20 years, this multiplatinum-selling and GRAMMY-nominated band has topped the charts with radio staples such as "Name," "Slide," and "Here Is Gone." With the release of the 2006 album Let Love In, the Goo Goo Dolls hit a record 12 Top 10 hits in Adult Top 40 history, beating out Matchbox Twenty and Sheryl Crow.
While the Goo Goo Dolls have enjoyed their own share of success, one thing is certain: the band members haven't forgotten where they came from and are happy to give back to their loyal fans. With "Before It's Too Late" in the sound track of this summer's hit action movie Transformers still in theaters, their performance will be a sure hit. |
